Overview

Castle Howard sits in 1,000 acres of parkland across the beautiful Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside York.

Discover peaceful woodlands and lakeside walks with this ticket; explore the grounds’ monumental landscape dotted with lakes, statues, fountains, temples and an 18th century walled garden.

The tranquil Walled Garden with its manicured borders, an ornamental vegetable patch and pretty summer blooms is the perfect place to relax and discover a spectacular Rose collection.

Discover an enchanting woodland garden in Ray Wood which holds an impressive collection of plants from around the globe maintained by the Castle Howard Arboretum Trust. Make sure to pay a visit in spring when the rhododendrons begin to flower; it’s a colourful spectacle that has to be seen to be believed!

Families can enjoy riding the land-train to our award-winning adventure playground – Skelf Island, summer boat trips on the Great Lake, or making their own adventure in the woods.

After a day exploring, visitors can treat themselves to “A delicious taste of Yorkshire” in one of the Cafes or Restaurants, or a bit of retail therapy in the Gift or Farm Shop.

*Please note: the Walled Garden is open Spring – Autumn.

The House itself, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh with assistance from renowned architect Nicholas Hawksmoor, is often described as an architectural marvel, boasting some of the finest Baroque architecture in the UK. As a result, the House and surrounding Estate have been chosen to appear in a number of major films and TV series, including Bridgerton, The Great, Victoria and two adaptions of Brideshead Revisited.

Castle Howard also has an ever changing programme of exhibitions and events, including concerts, exhibitions, an outdoor cinema and much more!
