Enjoy a Downton Abbey Coach Tour from London visiting 2 of the main filming locations for the hit TV show.
Departing central London you will experience the beauty of the Cotswolds and the real-life home of the Carnarvons.
What you will see
Setting off from central London by luxury coach it will take 2 hours to reach your first destination – Downton Village. Here your guide will give you a full tour of the village. Your guide will point out filming locations from the show and the movie. Sites visited include the church, Post Office, hospital plus the home of Isobel Crawley.
You will be shown stills of how the locations appeared in the show so you can compare both. You will discover behind the scenes info and feel immersed into Downton village life. The village featured in all 6 series plus the movie and is charming and photogenic. Following the tour you will have a chance to explore the village on your own before heading back to the coach.
Highclere Castle – the jewel in the crown of Downton Abbey locations
From Bampton village, you will take a one-hour journey to Highclere Castle aka Downton Abbey.
On the coach, you will be given background history about Highclere and watch scenes from Downton Abbey. Highclere Castle was designed by architect Charles Barry.
You will have a chance to explore the home of Lord and Lady Carnarvon with the aid of our self-guided information sheet. This sheet shows you where many memorable scenes were filmed. Rooms include the Library, Drawing Room, Saloon, Dining Room and the first-floor bedrooms. Do note that the ‘below stairs’ scenes were filmed on set at Ealing Studios.
You will have approximately 3 hours to enjoy Highclere Castle before re-boarding the coach. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase food at Highclere Castle.
Then you will head back to central London where the tour will end.
